Reasons to Apply for NMC (New Member Council)

Written by Marley Roos, Vice President 2

Hey everyone!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas break and Santa brought you everything you wanted!

I just wanted to give all the freshmen a little insight as to what to expect on New Member Council and why I want all of you to apply. First of all, planning Bid Day is the most important thing we will do during this Spring semester because it is the first impression new babies will have on ZTA. Even though it is a lot of work and can get stressful, it is so much fun! Brainstorming ideas and finally narrowing it down to something AMAZING is so exciting for everyone in the chapter. We will also go on a NMC retreat in the Spring where we will get as much work done then so we can focus on having fun with the babies in the Fall. I am planning on doing it when it warm enough to go to my lake house and swim and get door signs and the Bid Day banners done outside so we can all work on our tans too (Lord knows I need one after this Winter). This is also a good bonding experience for all of NMC and I so we can figure out the best ways to work together in the Fall. My personal favorite part of being on NMC was going on New Member Retreat with all the new babies. It makes it so much easier to get to know a little bit more about the babies. This also helps with the match ups for Berry Buddies so you know who you would like to get to know better and who you think would match well with your friends. And we all know Berry Buddies is so important for the babies to feel comfortable in ZTA. We did so much this year on NMC I literally could go on forever but it seriously was an amazing experience for me and everyone on it!

I know this is super cheesy, but its sooo true! I knew from my first day at ZTA that I wanted to be on NMC and eventually New Member Coordinator. My VPII and NMC made me love ZTA so much more than I could ever imagine and I hope all of you want to be apart of making the new babies experience as great as yours.

With all of that said I hope every one of you applies for be on NMC because I need all the help I can get and I truly want to hear what everyone has to say. So make sure you applications are AWESOME with tons of ideas for all of us to choose from!!!

Marley

Zeta's Gettin' Fancy!

Welcome Everyone!

One of my projects as VP1 is to organize information in a more convenient way, and allow everyone to know what is going on and that you ALL feel connected.  I thought a really modern/practical way would be to start a blog.  I know listserv e-mails are frequently overlooked and gin is not as effective and this is definitely user-friendly.  Also, I want to encourage y'all to make parents/friends/alumnae or anyone else connected to Zeta aware of the blog as well.  I know my parent's love knowing what we are doing at Zeta and sometimes I get so busy that it's hard for me to consistently update them.

That being said, here are some important updates on what is going on with leadership at Zeta currently!

  • Newly elected Exec Council has been elected and held an Exec Council training session which took place from 4 pm- 11pm on Friday, December 3.  Many topics were discussed on how to make Gamma Pi better.  Some topics discussed included chapter unity, academic enhancement, possible sponsorship opportunities and campus involvement.
  • Carly Nash is the first Philanthropy Chair to serve on Exec Council!  She has already gone above and beyond with the position and has even more great ideas (believe it or not it may be possible for her to outdo herself!).
  • The Program's Council for 2011 was selected last night after Sister Christmas.  There were an abundance of qualified applicants.  I am fully confident that PC '11 will be doing big things.  There may or may not even be a t-shirt involved :).
  • Social Chair, Kathryn Maples has created an extremely efficient way for Zeta to have socials with the most desired fraternities with a new approach, a Google Doc spreadsheet survey.  This allows all members to select there favorite fraternities and submit to Kathryn.  All submissions will automatically be sent to a spread sheet that will tally all of the results.  This will ensure that the favorite fraternities of the majority of members will be on the social calendar for 2011.

That being said, everyone please bookmark the Zeta Digest blog!  I will be updating it frequently so that your inbox isn't flooded!  I will inform everyone when submissions are made!  Comments on entries will be greatly appreciated!
